My clients knew well in advance that they wanted an engagement session in May. The only thing left to figure out was where.
We chatted about downtown locations early on but once we decided this would be a sunrise session — Trinity Bellwoods it was on an early Saturday morning.
I arrived around 5:45am to the park, about 30 minutes before my clients. Scouting before a session is something I always do — this morning was no different. Funny thing is — despite living in Toronto for 12 years I had only been to Trinity Bellwoods once before and barely remembered the layout — other than it has a beautiful alley of cherry trees.
The morning was chilly but the park was already alive. At least three other groups of people had the exact same idea — sunrise time to enjoy the blossoms and beat the crowds. We were all there for the same reason so early in the morning.
When it comes to photos three groups of people in the background is manageable — Photoshop handles that without much fuss. A full crowd of people is a different story. Time consuming and not fun if has to be done on more than 3 photos from the session. So the early call time was the right call.
We walked through the cherry blossoms, looped around the park and then made a decision to head over to Ossington strip. Empty streets and no traffic gave us more than we could have planned for.
Once we call wrap on the session we made our way back to the park and stopped for a coffee at a shop that had just opened for the morning.
By 8am I was on my way home. Already photographed a session, met new people, chatted about travel destinations each of us would like to visit, had a coffee — and the city was barely awake.
